ED CORRIGAN'S SHORT BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT
Ed Corrigan holds a B.A. in History and a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. Ed also has a Law Degree from the University of Windsor and was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1992. He has distinguished himself as a lawyer and is recognized as one of the top Immigration lawyers in Canada. He is featured on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation web site as a leading Immigration lawyer. His academic area of expertise is the Middle East and he has published numerous articles in academic and journalistic publications.
Ed Corrigan has published, "Refusal to Perform Military Service as a Basis for Refugee Claims in Canada" 8 Immigration Law Reports, (3d) pp. 272-286 and "The Legal Debate in Canada on the Protection of Stateless Individuals Under the 1951 Geneva Convention," 23 Immigration Law Reporter (3d) pp. 196-209. He has also published "The Safe Third Country Agreement: Impact on Refugee Claimants," in 9 Bender's Immigration Bulletin, September 15, 2005. Ed has also published many other articles on Immigration and citizenship issues.
On June 29th, 2004 the Law Society of Upper Canada certified Ed Corrigan as a specialist in Citizenship and Immigration law and Immigration and Refugee Protection. There are only 32 lawyers in Ontario who are certified as specialists and only 9 who are certified in both categories. Ed also sits on the Law Society of Upper Canada Certified Specialist Selection Committee for Citizenship and Immigration.
Ed Corrigan has been active in refugee protection issues since being called to the bar and was a member of the Canadian Council for Refugees (C.C.R.) Legal Affairs Committee from 1993 to 1997 and has served as Regional Contact for the C.C.R. Refugee Protection Committee from 1993 to 2000.
Ed also has a long and accomplished record of community service. He has served on the Board of the Cross Cultural Community Centre in London, Ontario; is a past chair of Neighbourhood Legal Services, a poverty law clinic run by Legal Aid Ontario; a past president of the Lambeth Community Association, and also served on the Board of the Canadian Club of London. Between 2000-2003. He served as Councillor for Ward 7 on the City of London, Ontario municipal city council. In that capacity he represented the City of London on the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Board and on the Lake Huron Water Board. He presently serves on the Board of the London Cross Cultural Arts Committee which sponsors cultural activities and organizes the Sun Fest and Fiesta del Sol music festivals each summer in London, Ontario. He has also been active in other community and professional associations.
